Default 2007 A4 Convertible Roof problem, part 2

Hi guys,

so after I had a faulty sensor replaced half a year ago, now the roof is causing problems again: Trying to open the cab, the windows will go down, latches will pop open, but then the roof won't retract. Is the pump dead now?
I have had a sensor in the trunk replaced earlier this year after the roof wouldn't move a single bit and just the roof light would keep flashing at me in the dashboard.
Now the issue is different, but still weird. I wonder if it just needs a reset of some sort... (?!)

It started after I accidentally let go of the (horribly placed) roof switch right in the middle of the closing procedure. Then the roof wouldn't move anymore and I had to manually put it down. After that it worked a couple of times again, until last week, when I tried to close it. The windows would go down and the trunk lid would pop open, but then the trunk lid would not go up further. Nothing would happen. Weird to me was also, that the trunk lid would pop open already while the windows were still going down. I thought to remember that the trunk lid would wait for the windows to go down to their half-way-down position, but I might be wrong here. However, had to put it down manually.

Can the system be somehow reset by disconnecting the battery or something? I've read somewhere else about turning the ignition key 3 times without starting, but that would't help.
Every comment and any help much appreciated!!!

Cheers
Jan

P.s.: I remember now that, after the first incident, at one occasion I had to try several times before the roof closed. (roof was open, tried to close it, windows went down, trunk lid pops up, nothing happens; reversed switch, trunk lid goes back down and windows go up, tried again; on the third or fourth try the roof would close the whole way). This makes me think it is not a mechanical issue, as it worked after the several attempts.

Since no one's replied to you yet, I'll step in and give you my own experience:

1) For the first few years after the B6 Cabriolet came out, there was an on-going perception on this forum that stopping a top opening/closing sequence prematurely, before its completion, would damage the system, and should be avoided like the plague. This addresses the onset of your top-closing failure incident beginning when your finger released the roof switch in the middle of the roof-closing sequence.

2) About 4-5 years ago, I brought my B6 Cabriolet into my dealership with a problem openning the top. I saw the service advisor and their cabriolet specialist mechanic open and close the top maybe 15 times, and almost every time, they stopped the sequence at some point mid-way to check its operation. This stoppage had absolutely no effect, in itself, on the subsequent operation of the top. No effect, whatsoever.

So based on that experience, it seems to me that your current problem was not caused by you having accidentally stopped the top closing before it completed the process. That only leaves a half-million other possibilities open. Hopefully, someone can come forward with a solution to your problem.

Although it began to rain later on, Audi prepared the Auto Union Type C for the track, which took more than one hour. We could hear the engine warm up through the whole valley. Everybody was quiet, waiting for the car. The valley was the church, and the engine was a prayer with sixteen voices, praying about motorsport. And the smell from the exhaust gases of the sixteen-cylinder engine hung in the air.

Well, thanks for your answer, Brian! Much appreciated!

I still need to know about how to "reset" the system, though. Anybody have a suggestion?

Does anybody know how much a pump/motor repair usually costs? (parts and labor)

Also, does anybody if I could access the problem (reset) if I had this VAG system? Which one to buy?

Cheers

Default reset

Looks like one of the micro switches is stuck open and is preventing the system from continuing the full cycle.
best way is to stick the manual key between the rear seat cavity and reset it manually.
move it up or down until fully close or fully open, remove the key and try with the switch, is always better with the engine running as it takes a lot of power to operate a full cycle.
hope this helps.
