The dealer has been very accommodating and apologetic. Each time they offer us our choice of all their Audi loaners. I don't think they have an A8 though. I also already asked about a Porsche loaner and was told they don't cross-loan..... I may have to ask again.

OK. The dealer changed the gas cap and smoke tested and pressure tested the syetm, plus tightened all fittings during our last visit to fix this problem.

Guess what... this morning the light came back on. I called AOA to have them update the case they opened for this car. AOA has been very nice but not very helpful. ... the advice they are giving our dealer is to replace the entire evap system including all pipes, tubes, and fittings.

I am not sure I want this specific car any longer, especially if they have to tear it apart.

it is 2yrs old and has 9000mi!!!!

Update: The dealer had the car for 3 days. During that time they checked everything mecahnical again. They are now thinking that it is a software issue. I believe they had it hooked-up to one of their computers for at least two days, they said something about downloading data every 20min. They also admitted that the problem is beyond their abilities and were calling-in a regional AOA engineer.

However, and this is what burned me... the dealer could not get the corporate engineer to return their call to schediule an appointment. He was in training and then offline. When I called AOA, they were useless. Some woman with a silky, valium-like voice gave me about 5 excuses but did nothing to help. AOA promised to call me back and never did.

The dealer finally got the engineer late Thursday and he's coming to the dealership on Wednesday. They mentioned that he might also be bringing an engineer from Germany to look at our Q5.

I will update as we go on. I hope the engineer is able to diagnose the problem.

I am trying to decide how to deal with AOA. They have been useless thus far except for the fact that they opened a case to document the issue. I need to find someone responsive who will get results and help the dealer get this issue resolved.

Well, we got the Q5 back after a week at the dealer. They brought in a Regional Technician and an engineer from Germany.

After complete tear-down of the entire evaporative emissions system followed by exhaustive testing of each component they guessed it was the gas tank. Unfortunately there was no part that conclusively failed.

They ordered a new tank and lo and behold.... the wrong part was shipped. Eventually, a new tank was procured and installed and the full system underwent additional rounds of testing. they released the Q5 back to us last night. Now we wait... hopefully we dont have the same error code return in 3-8 weeks.

My dealer was very accomodating and communicative. AOA, however, was a joke. Their customer service and level of communication is horrendous. For example, I got a v-mail last night that they were calling to let us know that the car was done and that we picked it up. I promptly returned their call and got thier voicemail (as always) and asked them to call me back. ...Thus far, no call back.

I have to say I'm extremely disappointed by the lack of service by AOA.

In the past 6 months it has been in the shop on 5 separate occasions requiring 9 trips to the dealership. Total time off the road has been 19 days. This is all for the same problem.

Hopefully, this time they fixed the issue once and for all. Sorry to hear about all the downtime and going back and forth. Anyone in your situation would be frustrated as well. But AOA really needs to do a better job at customer service and making sure their customers are satisfied.

Keep us posted if the new fuel tank solved the issue.

Well the AOA Customer Sevice is poor, at best. I still have not recieved a call-back despite having the direct extensions for 3 different reps and having left messages for each of them to call me.

It seems like the customer service reps get trained to take calls and calm people down from the ledge, but that's all. I saw very little escalation, involvement, or communication from them.

Wy wife keeps telling me to call Germany, use her German maiden name, and demand chocolate satisfaction.
