what are you talking about? The only thing you time is the timing belt. You are required to use at minimum the camshaft holding bar and the cam pully puller to do the belt. If you are trying to do the belt without the tools, your A. Wasting your Time B. You will absolutly NEVER get it propoerly timed C. You will NEVER get it properly tensioned. So unless you have the tools, just stop before you bend valves. If you need a step by step hand hold then i wouldnt try this job....its pretty involved. And is performed nothing like the timing belt on 95% of other cars.

Bull Sh**.
You think when they assemble an engine they have the bar already on there. The bar is to keep it in time when doing a timing belt swap, Yes. But its not the only way. If you have the valve covers off you can time it from the cam sprockets. There is a notch in each cam. Procedure is in the Manual but basically, those notches both need to be facing straight up Then there is a specific number of chain links that you count between them. Either 15 or 16 depending on how you count. Then you assemble the timing belt. Once assembled and the timing belt is tensioned, then you tighten the cam sprocket bolt using the bar.

I'm sorry if you want to do it hill billy way, mark pulleys, pull stuff apart, eye ball it, what ever, more power to you. I know I would want my car, and any of my customers cars to be 100% in time, not good enough to run.
