Default Updating MMI for Apple AirPlay

My colleague just purchased a 2011 Toureg which allows him to stream wirelessly / bluetooth his music through Apple's AirPlay technology - which is great btw.

Is it possible to update/upgrade our 2010 Q5 software to support this functionality?

Thanks in advance.

Erik

Highly unlikely. But, as long as you don't have Nav, you can get the Audi Music Interface which enables bluetooth music streaming which gets you the same result. Works great with my iPhone.

Finally solved my streaming problem for my new 2012 Q7, instead of Bluetooth streaming I decided to use Airplay which has better quality. all you need is an iPod touch second generation or better (should be able to support multitasking) and Airfoil Speaker (available in Apple app store) download the app on the iPod touch, after launch do an in app purchase to enable iOS streaming (2.99$). Launch the app and connect it to your MMI. Create a hotspot on your iPhone, from the touch join the network. That's it, now you should be able to see the touch from your iPhone as an AirPlay device, you can stream your music from any app to your AMI.
This is far better than Bluetooth since you can use your iPod touch as an iPod and AirPlay device.

Does it auto connect when you turn your Q7 on like bluetooth?

If I got this right, you have a second gen or greater itouch in the glove box connected to the AMI running the Airfoil speaker app with the in app upgrade to accept from other ios devices. You have your iphone and itouch connected to the same Wifi network (either the car wifi or your iphone's hotspot).

If it doesn't autoconnect, how much time to get it working before driving off?

You also have no ability to control it via the car's MMI interface, right? Or am I wrong? I've never used air play, but am basically familiar with it...

That's great for Apple users. However not everybody uses or own an Apple.

For those who do not or cannot achieve the said method, only way out is bluetooth modification if you have 3G MMI. Cost is a cable and a receiver, well some time out of your day, a few resistors and a soldering iron.

http://audia2dp.weebly.com/ Someone just linked this for me....it's $150 but if you look at your opportunity cost (for you economics people out there) it could save you a lot of time and hassle.

These folks would be up for a group buy. We'd need 30 committed folks to get a 5% off. Not much but better than nothing.

You stream to it, so basucally the sender (your iPhone) has the control, app is Airfoil Touch

You ate right, I use Airfoil Touch with in app purchase, it will autoconnect as long as you keep the app running, only caveat is you need to go to hotspot menu on your device so the rouch joins your network, if you use Audi connect this probably not needed (have not tested that) quality is great and others on the same network can see it as an Airplay device, I have jailbroken my touch so the app is launched in case touch restarts
