Default Airbag Fault Code 00589 - HELP!

This has become very aggravating... My 2000 Audi TT 180 FWD has had its airbag light on for months. I took it to a reputable Audi repair shop and they were stumped. I bought a VAG-COM and got the following readout:

Address 15: Airbags Labels: 8N8-909-601.lbl
Part No: 8N8 909 601
Component: Airbag Front+Seite 0005
Coding: 10102
Shop #: WSC 01236
VCID: F7F39C2CFF5D

1 Fault Found:
00589 - Airbag Igniter 1; Passenger Side (N131)
32-10 - Resistance too High - Intermittent

I read up in advance and purchased a handful of 4.7 ohm 1/2 W resistors for the airbag connector under the seat to trick the computer but I still got the same fault code immediately after I cleared it. I've also cleaned the connector. Not sure what I should do next.

The resistor trick is only for the side airbags.... Sounds like the in-dash airbag unit is faulty.

Any idea what the resistance should be on the sensor under the seat? Or the resistance on the airbag?

4.7 Ohms (not 4.7K). This resistance may be a bit hard to find locally.

I had the 4.7 ohm 1/2 watt but that didn't work so I figured the sensor under the seat was a different resistance. If the seat sensor gives me 4.7 ohms when I test it with multimeter then I would look at replaceing the airbag. What do you think?

Again, this won't fix your problem with the front bag. The 4.7 has worked on a ton of TT's that have done seat replacements . The seat bag hasn't changed.

You need to fix the underlying problem first, and likely have a dealer turn off the bag light...Often times a Vag or regular OBD2 tool won't clear that code.

I think I am following here. I just spoke with an Audi tech that's a friend of a coworker. He said to try the 4.7 ohm trick on the airbag connector in the glove box. There is a yellow connector in there just the same as the one under the seat.

My VAG-COM software clears the code for about three seconds (light in cluster goes off).

Yes..They all need to be tricked individually..

Yellow connector above the glovebox was indeed the culprit. 4.7 ohm 1/2 watt resistor fixed the problem. I reset the airbag light with VAG-COM. Done.
