Q5 2.0T vs 3.2L Dyno Comparison
Hey everyone,
I was looking through the testing data we collected during our Audi Q5 2.0T and 3.2L Exhaust Development and thought you would find this interesting.
Below you’ll find a dyno overlay showing a completely stock Q5 2.0T vs a complete stock Q5 3.2L.
What motor do you prefer?

Looks like after 5000 rpm, the 3.2L engine takes over as far as horse power is concerned, but how many of us ever rev. the engine pass 5000 rpm on the highway. This dyno curve is further evidence that Audi should retire the 3.2L engine in the Q5 and replace it with the 3.0T.

Thanks for posting the chart Alex. It definitely confirms what we felt during our back to back seat of the pants test drives. The 2.0T was livelier and felt stronger until the revs got up. I agree with G man, for what we will use this vehicle for, the 2.0T will be the much better choice. However, the 3.2L was smoother/more refined, which might be very important to some. Indeed the 3.0T needs to make it's way into the Q5 to compete with BMW's X35 engine. We chose the 2.0T.

Once they get to this kind flat curves, I stop bashing the junk retarded gasoline engines and ditch the diesel...
Anyways, thanks posting the actual charts and it's good to see how those two compare against each other.

Very interesting. So the actual power difference between the 2.0T and 3.2 is only 19 hp to the wheels?
Also, assuming that the 3.2 makes 265 hp at the crank as advertised, the drivetrain loss is about 23% - typical for an AWD car. If you also assume that the 2.0T has a similar drivetrain loss, it means that it makes 241 hp at the crank, not 211 as Audi claims.

A friend who works with Audi said that they just had training on the release of the 3.0T in the Q5. It is supposedly happening next year. I have no reason to not believe it, but I also have no substantive proof to confirm his statement.

maybe they can get the approval for the 3.0T or turbo diesel !!!!

the 3.2 delivers power extremely linear which one feels when driving. It is an excellent N/A V6 motor in all honesty. However N/A is dying out.
too bad you can never get all that torque out the 8spd since it would much rather downshift....

Don't you mean upshift? And yes, you can get all that torque - just put it in sport or manual (or press the pedal harder).

I have driven both and I greatly prefer the 3.2 over the turbo 4 banger. Just my opinion. Yes the 2 liter was no slouch but seriously, these cars are not dragsters off the line. The germans have always been stronger on the top end and the 3.2 has nice pull when passing someone at 100mph.
