Testing shift solenoids
Is it possible to check these via VAG-COM? if so what is the procedure. I have check most of the major forums and only found how to check fluid temp.

That vehicle should have the 01V/01L family transmission, but Output Tests for each individual solenoid may not be possible. If it is supported, click through each one and see which solenoids are activated: Output Tests Screen. If they actually activate you can disconnect the master connector (or backprobe at it) and see if the TCM is sending the proper voltage or ground signals to the valve body as per the wiring diagrams.
Generally speaking, electrically faulty solenoids or wiring set fault codes. Solenoids that are mechanically sticking need to be removed and tested.
