Default Can Anyone Unlock My Radio from "Safe Mode" - in Florida

I just purchased a 2001 Audi S4 and the radio is in "Safe Mode." I understand that one used to be able to bring in the VIN and serial number off the radio to an Audi dealership and they would look up the number for you, but whe I called today the guy said its not like that anymore and now its a $135 charge and I must bring the car in to them. Is this the truth, or is the dealer just trying to nickel-and-dime me? If anyone is local in South Florida (or at a distance I am willing to drive to) I would really appreciate some help with this, if possible. Thanks!

I don't think it is true. I got my code from them a year ago. I had a same issue as you, just went there and got the code. But I leave in Oregon so Idk may be in Florida they do it different try calling other dealers or find the last owner. Hope that helps

I am in Sout Florida. I do not have the keys to pop the radio out, but it was suggested to me last night on one of the other forums that I just buy a new unit from ECS Tuning so I did - I got a new radio (which comes with the 4-digit code) and the VAG key/tool set to remove the radio with for like $70 shipped...half of what the dealer wanted for just the numbers.

Thanks anyway for offering to help though guys!

You need the serial number from the radio and the vin # . It can pulled that way from ElsaWeb or via a scan tool
