Default JHM SSK impact on factory warranty

I know the warranty discussion has been done to death, but I couldn't find any info on how my factory warranty might be affected by a short shifter (JHM in particular).

I'm certain it's a rock-solid product and would have negligible impact on the longevity of my car (in fact, it would likely improve it!). Nevertheless, I need to know how this $300 mod would affect the warranty on my 50k+ car before I proceed to crack open my interior.

I've heard some cases where Audi honors the factory warranty so long as the car is returned to stock before service. Is this one of those cases?

It would be a hard pressed thing to prove that a shortened shifter hieght caused damage to the car. Come on now.

If Audi can prove that you had a non-OEM part on the car (even if you put the stock piece back on), and that non-OEM part caused any damage, they can deny that particular claim.

Always remember, no aftermarket part makes the entire warranty void. You can have your driveline modified to the hilt, and if the remote trunk lid does not open properly, it is covered.

Like NWS4Guy said, you are probably fine. The ONLY thing i can think of is that if the linkages get damaged due to faulty design of the SS. But that's just a guess.....

Wouldn't sweat it...

A shifter is a lever. You're simply shortening an arm of the lever and adding a more durable wear surface for the pivot point. A dealer would be hard pressed to prove that it caused a problem short of a bad install causing it to come loose from or detach from the linkage during driving. It would be like trying to deny warranty on the sport diff because you used different wheels.

Thats what I figured... thanks guys.

I know the JHM SS would never damage anything if installed correctly, I guess I'm just a bit paranoid about my first mod. You never know what dealers will try and pull, right? At least now I'll have a formulated response if my dealer tries to say anything about it.

It's a really easy mod. You won't have any trouble with the install and you'll know if you got it right before you ever start the car up. As long as you tighten all the screws you're supposed to and have the angle correct you'll be fine. If the angle is off you'll know as you won't be able to shift into reverse.
