For some reason, I think they were the Canadian models. Mine was built 11/10 and has the metal pump.

5k miles on the car and its first winter. Only happens when under 40F or so.
Tell your dealer and get it taken care of under the TSB.

I've owned my car for almost two months. Over the last few weeks I noticed a decrease in my brakes responsiveness. There doesn't seem to be enough levels of braking, I have to really slam the brakes hard to stop at a light. Pressing the pedal 1/2 way doesn't slow me down enough. This morning I experienced my first low speed brake squeal. Could these two be related. Or are the s4 brakes just mushy?

thanks

IMO, I'd say yes, I've come to the conclusion that they're related.

The S4's brake pads exhibit the same qualities as the racing brake pads I've purchased over the years for the odd track days / HPDEs that I attend, namely squealing and a lack of braking response when they are cold.

It's only in cold weather that these two qualities really show themselves, but as soon as the temperature dips below about 35 degrees, I get the squeal and also the lack of response. High temp / high performance brake pads don't work well at all when they're cold, you need to get some heat into them. It's a little unnerving when I step on the brakes in cold weather and it's like "no one's home" down there in the braking department.

The upside is that these pads really should have some decent braking ability. I intend to find out, as I decided I'm not swapping brake pads when I go to Lime Rock this year.

My 5/2010 build has it since 15K (currently 36K) miles at any speed/temp, sometimes way too loud! @LA area. - this is the only real problem I have on this car.

Pad @ 5 mm but they did th TSB as long as I pick up cost of new pads. Sounds fair to me. Brakes are not noisy any more but stops are softer for now. I heard it gets better as they are broken in a bit.

Has this happened to anyone? I was thinking that perhaps it could be related to the weather getting cooler here in Chicago?? We're just coming off of a long warm spell.
There is a dealership fix for 2010 and 2011 models. They replace the front brakes and rotors. The squeal is gone.

Just to help people out: took my car in for 25K service and asked about a TSB for brake squeal. At first the dealership said they knew nothing of it, so I made the service rep look it up. Sure enough, there is one (TSB 2027636/3), and I got new front brake pads (hopefully not soft) and rotors, and a brake fluid flush/replacment out of it for free. Of course, I won't know if the squeal issue is solved until the cold weather next December.

Cool, ill get this done at 15k. Thanks for providing the TSB number, its always useful, especially when the dealer plays dumb...
