Default Head light range detector DEFECTED!

Hi, I hate that my first post ever is not a 'Here's my new ibis S4'

I had the car for 4 days now, and took it for two spirited drives (yesterday, and just now).

I was on a curvy road up in the mountains where no one really drives on (road conditions are fine, but it's an unnecessary detour). It has road lights and I was not using hi-beam.

Then suddenly the car beeps a couple times, and says 'Headlight range control defected' (maybe not in the exact words as it stayed on for a few seconds and went away. the warning sign was still on).

Yesterday when this happened, I turned off the car and started it again to see if it still did the little 'nod' with the headlights, and it did. I've owned a b8 a4 for a year, and this never happend, and the S4 only did this when I was pushing the car on that exact road.

Have you guys ever run into the same problem?

I should take the car to the dealer, but I don't want them to keep the car too long, for I want the car on the weekend.

anyways, thanks in advance for any ideas, and sorry for the long post

could be that the suspension made more movements than the headlight adjustment allowed... It might be worth a call to the dealer.

Were you messing around in one of the menus?

I was plagued by this message for a while until I figured it out.

There is a section in "car" I thinkg called trip mode.

This is essentially for travelling from UK to other right lane countries and back...it stops the adaptive lighting from working as not to blind others.

Turn TRIP mode OFF and see if the message goes away.

Good luck!

I messed mine up scanning with my VCDS, cleared the code and it was fine and had been since.

Do all S4's have the headlights which turn ahead of you? Or do they all just have self leveling and it is a special option to get the adaptive headlights?

yes, default headlights are not adaptive.
