Default Audi U.S. Sales in March Set a Record, Best First Quarter in Audi history.

The Audi Q5 crossover has consistently ranked among the most highly sought Audi vehicles since its debut in early 2009. Sales of the versatile Q5 increased 55.5% in March from a year earlier and 60.5% when compared to February 2010 sales.

That is great news. Unfortunately, I have to wonder what will happen when the new BMW X3 debuts. While I hope the Audi continues on the same path, I fear the BMW will be it's greatest competition, and could edge it out of the top spot.

Having owned a few BMW's, I can honestly say I hope not. But BMW's do have some great features, albeit at a premium price, that Audi need to catch up on.

New X3 will based on E90 platform - witch was introduce in 2005 as 2006 model.
What ever is came out from Spartanburg, SC will be already 5 yr old at list.
They are really to late with X3 - They should retool and make new X3 base on new F30 platform. And I think Q5 - it's a big winner there.

I know the X3 is getting a major overhaul- and it needs it. I have never driven one but think it is one of the ugliest SUV's out there. It looked dated the day it was introduced.

It looks like A4 sales were down year over year in March (but up for the quarter). I have to imagine the Q5 is cannibalizing some of those sales and the good news for Audi is that the Q5 has a higher ASP so I imagine higher profit per vehicle as well.

Moving forward I think Audi should expand the engine choices. I think they should drop the 3.2, use the 3.0T that is in the A6 (doesn't have to be tuned to as much power as it is in the S4), bring the 3.0 TDI, and maybe bring the 2.0 T.

3.0 TDI would be nice too. I was told by my dealer that there was no TDI for the states, only the Hybrid. If that's true, bummer. I am not and never will be a fan of Hybrids. They're for yuppies who think they have something to prove. LOL. Now bring me a TDI, and I'll be on my 3rd Q5. LOL

Might be a record for Audi, but they're in distant 4th place behind Lexus, MB and BMW in the fist quarter fo 2010.
