Default Trunk Release Problems

I have a 2007 A4 Cabriolet 2.0T that will not respond completely to the key fob or the lever in the door to open the trunk. You can hear the zzzzzttt of the motor like it is going to open, but it does not. The only way I can get it to open is with the key manually. The key slot is in the vertical position as it should be and oddly enough this started just after my passenger brake light went out (which has been replaced).

Any ideas?

Any chance you didn't get the reflector or the trunk seal secured correctly, and it is interfering with the opening?

Thanks for responding!

Well the trunk thing started before I actually chaged out the brake light bulb so I don't think that would be it.

Basically, my brake light went out and the next time I tried to open my trunk with my key fob or the door panel it would not work. Just the zzzzzztttttt sound with no click to open.

I heard somewhere that is indicative of a vacuum line that is now sucking air, since the system is supposed to be vacuum driven. Open the panel where you hear that zzzzzt sound, and you should be able to tell if the vacuum line has come loose.

good point. I think it's just a coincidence with the whole brake light thing. I know when something goes wrong with mine theres always something else I discover lol

Isn't this thing under warranty? Why not let the dealer handle it?

Thanks for the info, Lyman. I am going to keep that in mind. I actually talked to the dealer and they thought it was a simple lubrication issue. I hope it's that simple. If not, I will have to see if it's covered under warranty.
