Default PC Performance

So my PC is so slow these days and I'm thinking about adding some memory to speed it up. The PC is always spotless (no viruses, malware, adware, it is defragmented, registry is optimized, and temp files have been deleted) but it still takes forever to boot, pull up applications, run programs, launch iTunes, etc. Is adding memory the best way to speed it up?
My PC:

HP Pavilion f1503
Windows XP, SP 3
2.19 GHz AMD Athlon XP Processor
512 Mb RAM
160 GB hard drive (9.76 Free)
1344MB of 1344 MB virtual memory being used

yes - that will help you a ton.

But if that does not give you what you want - then save your data and do a clean install of the OS again as a lot of dlls get added or changed over time. Even Leo Laporte does this several times a year on his PCs
