Default New 2010 A4 owner - dealer paint protector, is it needed?

I'll be taking delivery of my new 2010 A4 Prestige S-Line on Tuesday. The dealer indicated that they will apply a complementary 'paint protection' to the vehicle.

Is this needed?
Should I let the dealer do this?

I've asked them to provide details on what they will apply, I'm waiting for them to get back to me.

The dealer needs it for ADP. This TLA justifies the expense (for the dealer, that is.) It means: Additional Dealer Profit.

If it's like the protection package they gave me, they'll offer window tint, a clear bra, and a product called Secure Finish, which after application basically means you'll never have to wax your car.

Looks good, except for the bra line about mid-hood. Whether I'll ever wax the car after a wash or not, we'll see.

Oh. And congrats on the new car!

There is no such thing as a product that will make it so you never have to wax. Hopefully you didn't believe them when they said that.

I won't be paying extra for this protector (if I decide to let them do it).

I've been far removed from a new vehicle purchase for several years and I'm simply wondering if this is something I have done to the vehicle.

The color of the car will be Phantom Black Pearl.

Hobbes, I'm 52, and the sign on my forehead says "Dumb", not "Stupid"...lol

I'll be happy if it provides some minor scratch protection. I don't really expect it to be the end all to end all as regards vehicle body maintenance. Now what they expect me to believe to make themselves feel better....

Guessed translation: they will just wax the car

I was in this industry for a long time and they only thing you are buying is a warranty. A lot of warranties for these protections were merly money back so if something happens they just give you a refund and say good luck. So not sure what the Audi dealers are pushing nowa days but there is no sure thing. Nothing you can't buy at an autoparts store anyways.
