Default Code P3081

Does anyone know what code p3081 really means? I got this on for a 3 weeks already. My OBD2 reader doesn't have the code in data base. I read on the forum it's related to coolant temp sensor. 3 day ago I did TB and changed the sensor. The problem still exists. Another link - erratic coolant temp gauge. 2003 2.7T 99k miles. Any help greatly appreciated. Tanks fellas!

Your symptoms point to something wrong with the sensor, is the connector on good?

hmm. i just had a jetta (i think! i see a lot of cars) with that same code along with another, which i cannot remember at this time, replaced cts and stat. haven't had a problem with it.

any actual drivability/other problems/symptoms?

i assume you were able to clear the code and it came back on correct?

yes, cleared them multiple times and the code comes back without check engine light. the light comes on 10-15 min later. when i start the engine in the morning it should idle at higher rpm for a few min. (aprox. 1500), but when the code is active rpm stays low about 750. than I erase code with OBD2 reader and immidietly rpm goes high and engine gets louder tone.

the car runs fine except the coolant gauge that almost always stays on "cold"
I performed test with OBD2 reader, check coolant temp reading graph during driving and it shows normal operating temperature.

well, that is odd. i guess i would check the t-stat again, maybe get a factory part if you didn't before. Maybe also check to make sure you have the system bled completely.

good luck, let us know what you find

I think the code is related to erratic temp gauge. There is nothing wrong with temperature of the engine (no overheating or being cold). To find out what is really wrong I need to find out what is code p3081 really mean and go from there. Can you guys direct me on how to find it? My reader doesn't recognize it! Thanks for all the answers.
