Default Scary story--and a reminder to be aware

There are several reports on the A6 board about unintended acceleration due to floormats becoming wedged against the accelerator pedal. Fortunately, no one was hurt, despite some close calls. This can happen with any car, by the way, but the first thing one should think of in a case of out of control acceleration is to pull back on the floor mat. I've reminded my teenage drivers of this.

This time it didn't come out too well:

Sure, it seems like it should have been possible to slow the car, but in an emergency situation, its always best to have thought about what to do ahead of time.

I had this happen to me twice. Thankfully, each time was on a deserted street. The first time that it happened I didn't know what to do. I saw I was gonna redline and I didn't want to blow the engine so I shut off the engine after breaking didn't work and coasted to a stop. The second time I pulled the floor mat back and thankfully everyone was okay. I did find new mats after this. They are cut with a laser to match each car and be very precise. Great mats and no problems since then. If you guys wants the brand I will get them for you.

Very tragic. But also very strange. With an automatic transmission the brakes will have no effect if the accelerator is depressed all the way? Seems like odd engineering if so. Maybe there was more drive by wire things going wrong. Anyway I'm glad I have a manual and could just take it out of gear or push the clutch in.

I have a manual. And I messed up my story. Sorry. I put it in nuetral and my revs skyrocketed to redline, so I shut off the car.
