Default Bike Rack Advice

So I have a new 2009 Audi A4... I used to put the bikes on the back of my old car with an inexpensive trunk mount. I definitely do not want to do this on my new car, so I am wondering who has roof mounted bike racks, how you like them, and can you post pics? My concern is that it is going to take away from the visual appeal of the car... but I gotta have a way to get my bike to the trail!

Audi has options but they are pricey.

Yakima has fits for the B8A4 roof (according tho there website)
Thule has nothing yet and no ETA

Hitches are out there as well

Thule does have a fit kit for the B8. Here's what you need:

Rapid Podium Foot Pack 460R
Fit Kit 4007
Aero Bars RB47

If you search Audiworld you'll find another owner (in Oregon I think) who has posted photos of his Thule racks on his Avant.

I gather that the Thule rig sits closer to the roof than the much more expensive Audi kit and I think it looks as good. No Audi logos, but the bars are longer (unless you want to trim them shorter).

Those p#'s are for the Avants which have been available for some time. I got another response from Thule saying the same old thing for the sedans. "Working on a fit"

You had me reaching for my visa for a minute.

How much different is the roof line/shape?

The wait goes on...

I guess I'm Avant-centric - I didn't stop to think that the OP was talking about a sedan.

For the Avant, what is the 4007 fit kit for? When I look at it and look at pictures of the installed rack on the car, it doesn't seem like you need it. From the pictures it looks like the 460R fixpoint foot should clamp directly onto the roof rails.

Can someone explain what the 4007 is for?

The 4007 Fit Kit comprised the bolted clamps that attach to the roof rails. The 460R foot is a kind of shroud that attaches to and covers the clamps and holds the rails. In other words, the fit kit customizes the shape of the clamps, allowing the foot to be used on a variety of cars.
