Default FLIR

Hi all.
I recently installed a FLIR night vision camera on my 2000 H1 Hummer. Conveniently, there is a notch in the hood exactly where the IR camera goes for military use so installation was no problem.

Sad to say, I'm now hooked on night vision.

I am thinking about trying to do a night vision install on the S5.

Any thoughts on camera placement?
AND the big question is:
Does anyone think I could get the night vision to come up on the MMI screen?
It's good enough for the backup camera, it probably would work for night vision.

Thoughts?

since no one is writing to me, I'll talk to myself.
I found a dealer who does the IR camera - they think they can get the night vision to come up on the MMI screen with an in dash switch.

I think their offer is overpriced so I'm going to counter offer.

But night vision on an S5? C'mon someone's got to appreciate that - I do!

Default I'm not sure what's under the dash in front of the steering wheel...

Could you possibly place a screen on top of the dash that would reflect off of the windscreen? I'm sure you could find one only a few mm thick. Would likely work well at night if you could have the image on the screen displayed mirrored, or whatever is required to have it be correct in a reflection. Also, direct sunlight might be an issue with a screen there.

I think BMW uses this method for their nav and night vision systems on the 5 and 6 series. Of course, that one is sunk into the dash, it would be hard to replicate.

Roz!
What is up?
I hadn't thought about that, but I think the resolution I would loose, would make the install pointless.

My idea is just to have an Video switch placed flush and to the left of the MMI screen, which has enough resolution to support the backup camera, so it should produce decent b&w FLIR images

and just turn it on when I'm driving in inclement weather or total darkness.

Thats a cool system on the hummer. What kit are you thinking about putting on the S5? How far ahead of the car does the camera see?

TIA

Default FLLIR for AUDI (police)

turns out they make a kit to integrate into the audi MMI screen.
will look banging.

it's possible to get a zoom IR camera, but not necessary.

Best case of IR is driving on wooded roads - i.e. NO heat signatures
except the deer or the police car behind the bush!!!
