Default License plate holder or Filler?

Hello all,

I am getting ready to order 2010 S5 from a locatl Northern NJ dealership. I am told that I MUST order the front license holder by law. I would like to order the filler instead since I don't want to run front plates.

Anyone else with similar issue? I guess I can always just buy one and take the other one off.

Thanks

It's very easy to swap the filler for the front license holder... 2 screws hold it in place. However I'm unsure how Jersey cops would react, but I was stopped within the first week of having my S5 without a front plate here in CT where you are legally required to have a front plate. They let me off with a warning versus a $70 fine.

Ouch. I went 10 years without a front plate on my A4 before I got a ticket (which got dismissed). One and a half years later, I still have not put on a plate.

I have been toying with getting a Euro Plate which would read CT- XXXXXX (the X's being the actual plate number). Thought that might give me some breathing room.

After reading your post.....................not so sure.

I've had a European plate on the front of every car I've owned for the last 22 years in CT and have never been stopped (jinx!) due to the lack of F&R CT plates.

As respects the filler panel, my dealer threw it in for free and explained they were required to deliver the car with the front CT plate installed.

Great - thanks for the reply! I will see if I can work in a free filler plate with the dealer.
