Default A6 2.7T Secondary Air Injection System Insufficient Flow (P1423 & P1411 codes)

I have a 2004 A6 2.7T and recently had the notorious 17831 and 17819 Secondary Air Injection Syst Bank (1 & 2) Insufficient Flow P1423, and P1411 codes come up. I have reviewed the forums and don't see any real troubleshooting processes or procedures to narrow the problem down. I do have the A6 Bentley Manual for the 2004 model and I can not find any useful troubleshooting information in the manual or anywhere else for that matter. All I see in the manual is some various pix of second air inj systs for the 2.7, 2.8 and 3. 0 and v-8 engines, (pages. 26-11)and a brief description of what it's purpose is.

I have looked all around the pump and combi valves looking for broken vacuum hoses to no avail. The fuse is fine and if the relay (J299) was bad I don't think the pump would come on would it? Or am I using faulty logic? The second air inj pump is working as I hear it start up when cold, and it shuts off after it warms a up a bit, but it continues to throw the codes . I fear going to the stealership and having them start replacing parts one at a time until the actual faulty part is replaced and me ending up with a thousand dollar repair bill. Can anyone give me some guidance on what to check and any troubleshooting procedures available for this problem. Your assistance is greatly appreciated..

If you've checked the fuse and all the vacuum lines then it has to be the SAIP. If it's the SAIP, you'll hear the SAIP cut out and the MIL light simultaneously. You'll notice the SAIP cutting out much sooner than normal at start.

SAIP's are expensive at the dealer but ECS Tuning has a Bosche for half the price. You can also rebuild it. There's a tech article.

Also if the inside of the pump (impellers etc. ) are yellow/orangey, odds are your combi valves are faulty.

Same thing if you can hear light sputter from around the motor (the same kinds sputter you hear from the exhaust)

Default P1423 problem

Hi all,

I am new and recently bought an 2000 Audi A6. It was fine for a few weeks and then the O2 sensor before the Cat went off and got that fixed. Now I got P1423 and my mechanic checked and fixed for the time being with a zip lock strap and he said that he will get the part.
I have the photos taken and I have two questions.
1. In Pic 2, you can see that the hose was taken out and in Pic 3 you can see that he used zip lock strap to put it in, This is OK for some time as he is still trying to get the part and its been like 2 days now.
2. After this the mileage came down, Is this something caused due to the hose zip locked into the pump.
Please help.
Sorry the pics are taken with a cell phone as I did not had my camera with me.
