Default DLP's

Is there some big issue with DLP televisions that I didn't hear about. Seems like about a year ago the stores were packed with them and lately I have only been seeing one or two in the corner on clearance usually.

Mom is looking for a big, cheap television and I figured DLP, but not if there is some problem I'm missing.

P.S. - This new layout is the suk. We fear change.

Check out the other forums is you like kawf PM me if you want

As to dlps it is just the amount of people who want a thin flat wall mountable tv

I have avoided dlps because of the mechanical color wheels - and my lack of faith in the reliability of them. But I love rear projection tvs.

If cost is a issue look in your local Craigs list for used Sony SXRDs

If you don't mind the thickness, and the narrower viewing angle, DLP's can be a great choice. I was determined to by an LCD last year, but when I saw a 61" Samsung DLP with a BluRay movie on, I bought it. I have it in a corner, so it's hard to tell that it's 15" thick, and when you are seated directly in front of it with a HD program or BluRay movie on, it is amazing. The newer Samsungs (I have the A750 series) have an LED engine, not a color wheel, so they don't have to be replaced like the traditional DLP's, and the expected lifetime is as long as an LCD or plasma. I hope this helps, good luck with your purchase decision. Steve

Many LCDs have worse viewing angles - best is Plasmas
My RPTV SXRD has great viewing angle
