Default Need help with an old magazine review

I remember reading a review in 1993 of the Corrado SLC in this magazine, where the test car blew an engine. I can't find anything to substantiate this now in all my googling... But I know I read it b/c I was really considering a Corrado VR6 SLC back in 1993... Thoughts?

It was probably an article in European Car magazine. Was it modded or stock? Are you thinking of buying or just curious?

My understanding is that head gaskets could be an issue on earlier cars, as were heater cores. By now it's likely to be maintenance and old car issues on top of original design flaws that may or may not have been corrected.

The SLC has been on everyone's list at one point or another. The hard thing is to find one that isn't beat to heck or a stories car if you know what I mean. Given the image and performance at the time, these are cars that got driven hard and put away wet. Add owners who might have been able to afford the car in it's depreciated state, but not the maintenance of what was a $30K car back in the early 90's, as well as people with some well intentioned mods that didn't turn out for the better, and finding a good one is hard to do and won't be cheap. In fact, run away from the cheaper examples unless you have a full shop.

I was having a conversation with a VW enthusiast that just couldn't believe what I was saying... and I couldn't find proof...

I have some older back issues of EC at the wharehouse. Will see if I can find any mention in them when I visit this weekend.

A VR6 blowing up is somewhat rare. The standard supercharged 4 banger on the other hand, blew up if you looked at it cross-eyed

So I dug around in the wharehouse and the oldest copy of EC I have there is '96 - up to around '04. No mention of blowing VR6 engines - at least stock ones. That doesn't mean it didn't happen in an earlier issue of course. I've got a few 'vintage' magazines from the 80's and early 90's stashed with my folks, but they are not local.

It does bring back memories of working at the dealer in SoCal and meeting the writers of that publication. Some were eccentric to say the least!

Thanks for looking!

I would have to post 155 times a day for the next year to catch you... if you didn't change your 9 year avg daily post count of 16...

I'll keep an eye open in case I come across it at some point.

With the new standardized format, my post count is not going to be as high. So catching up shouldn't be a problem!

The forum software.

IB has done a great job making vB more like the old site, but it's still vB. Not my favourite.

On the other hand, the other forum has a lot of the wonderful people who were once here, but they also have the people who got banned - some for doing extremely nasty and in some cases, illegal things.
