Default Gotta love those valve deposits

RS4 Engine is in the UK. 19K miles. Dyno shows power output of engine to be low by 20-30 HP. Engine was serviced normally at the dealer.

toss in an oil catch can in addition to the cyclone system.

I tend to agree, that may reduce the problem significantly
but the space is very tight...

So who makes an oil catch can that will fit in the RS4?

the same company who makes the cyclones makes a bunch of different types of seperators...

unfortunately the name escapes me... RS246 had some nice stuff on it, including the patent drawings for the cyclone mechanism...

found it:
this is one type by the same company as makes the cyclone

That looks terrible!
Does anyone have a DIY to remove the intake manifold on these cars? Im willing to open mine up to see what it looks like .

that makes sense...as far as I can tell the RS4 uses an internal system, cam overlap, rather than an external conventional system for egr...

I think the problem is exasperated by not having fuel to 'wash' the valves...

not sure, but I would think once warmed up the erg gas would be pretty clean, relatively speaking, as compared to the crankcase stuff...but it's hard to quantify...

Chris,

Did you read the first several paragraphs of the patent? It is essentially a public admission of the current problem that Audi and VW FSI engines are experiencing.

hmmm, would a supercharger eliminate this? seriously...

not saying that I would get a supercharger for the purpose of eliminating the carbon deposits... but if I end up getting one and it eliminates that problem than it's an added bonus!

I thought I read in a recent post somewhere that Audi developed a cleaning solution for this problem? I can't remember what it's called or what to search for exactly..

MIGHT make it worse:
higher crankcase pressure ~ more blow-by
higher gas velocity, less efficient cyclone operation
just a guess

maybe the increased intake airflow might offset some of that...

but who cares, 100 more HP would alleviate the concern
