Default Where is the comparison of self-defense ammo?

I think I saw it here. It showed pictures of different ammo, etc. Recommending Federal.

Default What caliber?

IMHO, Marshall and Sanow provide the answer from actual shootings in either Handgun Stopper Power or Street Stoppers. I have and recommend both books. If you let me know what caliber you have in mind, I'll post the results. Or if you're interested in the .45 acp, here's my own Real Life Study :-)

Default 9mm

Only the results of a single shot to the torso are included. "Stop" means the attack ceased immediately, and the attacker was unable to flee. For statistical purposes, 10 shootings minimum are needed for a load to be included (but they're normally in the hundred's).

Percent one shot stops from actual shootings.

91% ... Fed 115 gr +P+
90% ... Win 115 gr +P+
90% ... Win 127 gr BT +P+
89% ... Rem 115 gr +P+
89% ... Fed 125 gr HS +P+
88% ... Speer 124 gr GD +P
88% ... Corbon 115 gr +P

79% ... Fed 147 gr HS
78% ... Fed 147 gr JHP
78% ... Win 147 gr BT
70% ... Win 115 gr FMJ

I carry the Corbon 115 gr +P in my P7.

Default I have a Federal 230 gr Hydra-Shok recovered from a deer.

I'll post a picture of it when I find it (I recently moved), but it's expanded to 1.1" ... not bad :-)

Default interesting data. the study I linked above takes penetrating a few layers of denim into

consideration. some of the common JHP's don't expand reliably after going through denim. I'd imagine a leather coat might have the same effect. It would be interesting to see more studies along those lines.

Default Since the 1992 publication of the original Marshall and Sanow book, ...

... They've accumulated a mountain of additional data.

The 340 page 2001 Street Stoppers now includes tables of actual One-Shot-Stop results from standard handguns (what I listed), compact/short-barrel handguns, pistol calibers in carbines, rifle calibers, and shotguns. Wound ballistics, barrier penetration, bullet performance in gelatin, bullet performance in the human body, etc etc are discussed in great detail with many photos. I can't recommend the book highly enough.
