Default MPG

Any info on the MPG we can expect from the new engines?

If they sold the diesel version here, I'd buy it unless they come out w/a hybrid.

Default only 6 or 8 pot diesels > hybrid

still hate the 1.9/2.0 four pot TDIs that only have 1000rev of useful power band.

Default I'd gladly have a 4 cylinder TDI over here for a daily driver...

I had the 1.9TDi when I lived and worked in Europe, after I got is remapped it was very strong...Also the newer 2.0TDi was a big improvement...

Default Diesel rant ....

... long rant warning - bail out now...

when I was a kid and got into cars it was a combination of things that got me hooked. Speed, smell, looks - still remember seeing that red Capri when I was four, doing 100 MPH in a Cortina Lotus (MKII) when I was about 8, driving my mum's mini in a field at 10, believing my Dad's Escort was the same as Roger Clark & Hannu Mikola's in my early teens, that TR6, my mate's Dad's Dolly Sprint - the list goes on. Fast forward to 17 years old and being legally allowed to drive (my Dad's now 14 year Escort) being my first car. What was the first thing I did? I'm guessing the same and millions of car mad boys & girls over the years and fit a "sports exhaust". Not because I thought it would go faster, but because I knew it would sound faster, louder. Have you ever heard a TR6 purr? a TVR shake the ground you're standing on? A straight 6 beamer as it changes gear, An A-Series at full cant through a railway tunnel? A Scubi's boxer doing its brians? And we're not even touching the pure erotica of what they make in Italy. The point is the missing item in my list above was noise. The melody of the internal combustion engine - I love it. Many a time I've considered a TDi & I live in the UK where they are everywhere and fuel costs the earth. But I had an RS6 over take me and it made me smile, an S4 just idle into a car park and it made me turn around - why? Because petrol (GAS) engines sound fan-fvcking-tastic and the A5 3.0 TDi quattro that a friend came to show me today left me cold because regardless of it being the 2nd (535d Touring being the 1st) most desirable road going diesel it still sounded like a tractor ploughing a field.

Daily driver maybe, wife's car definatey, car you can actually get emotional about No.

Default Diesel is not for everyone...

But there is a reason why it now is so popular, even in what was traditionally a petrol loving UK...

New diesels can be fun...

Default Whenever I go to Germany...

I', trying to get an A3 or A4 TDI as rental car. Usually Avis has the 2.0 TDI and last week I got a B7 with a 2.0 TDI and Quattro (returned the car with 900 km driven and the tank still not empty). Besides the typical TDI sound (which I don't mind) the car was pulling strong up to 130-150 km/h. Driving a B6 3.0 AT5 Quattro in the US and comparing that to the B7 2.0 TDI MT6 Quattro I drove last week, I would swap in a heart beat. Knowing that the 3.0 TDI sounds even less than a TDI (because of common rail), I'm really looking forward to getting a B8 with TDI.
