Default CA reguires front license, dealer didn't give me a place to put it?

3 week old S5 and was just thinking about when I was getting my plates, then I realized where in the world do I put it on that beautiful front end of my S5? Looked into my order and I guess mine came with the what is called a front end filler plate (no charge), I assume there is some other type that allows front license attachment (seen some of you other guys' pics). I googled CA front plates and it is in the California Vehicle Code that dealers are not allowed to sell cars without a place for attaching a front license plate, they must provide a means when it is state law (or customer must sign off that he does not want one)......Do I go back to Dealer? Will they have to order it from Germany? Will it be an easy switch?

Default U can place it on your dash when you get stopped.

I have been pulled over twice in my CLK for not having a front plate. But I always managed to pull it out from between my seat and quickly place it on the corner of my dash.

I gave the story that the car came with no bracket and have manage to drive off with no fix-it ticket.

I figure if I get a fix-it ticket, I'll just Velcro it on, have it signed off, then remove it.

Default a few things to think about

If you live in a crazy parking ticket place like I do in LA the meter maids are all over giving out tickets to people without plates as it circumvents the cameras that are set up everywhere to give tickets - they have a mandate to ticket as many cars as they can. The second thing is it gives the police cause to stop you - depending on your lifestyle this might not be that big a deal, but I sometimes drink and I would hate to have them take a liking to be and put me through the paces of a dui because of a plate. I would love to not have a plate and if you contact the dealer they will give you the other piece n/c I am sure as they have to. Easy to install as you can see.

Your first 2 points are spot on for my own worries. Easy to install? Do they give you a whole new filler panel with license bracket? It seems you have to take off the whole grill to get off the filler panel?

Thanks for the offer and info. I assume this is what the other filler plate looks like (took the pic from an earlier thread by someone else). Should it have automatically come with the car and they Dealer would have it hand? I did call my Dealer about this but it has been a week with no response. I think they are done with me since I "stole" mine for MSRP (had it writing) and now they want $15K over for S5s.

When I ordered my car they asked me if I wanted it. Having the same concerns about drinking etc, I went ahead and got it. I have also gotten tickets in the past for not having it.

Default yep

that is it. they have to give it to you, just call them. you did not steal it, I don't know anyone that would pay a dime over sticker for it - I had the first one in la and I paid sticker. its just a car, its not a life changing car either.

Default Easy replacement. Filler panel pops off and the plate one is installed. Grill isn't touched.

Default TX requires a front plate as well but

I opted for the blank filler panel, since i didn't want to screw up the look of the front end. Luckily, here they won't pull you over for not having a plate, but if you get pulled over otherwise, they might tack it on. Worth the $30 buck ticket, if you ask me.
