Default Competition for standard A5

Does current speculation have a loaded standard model in the mid to upper 40's range? I see from the latest C&D mag that the coming Infiniti Coupe will have an augmented V6 over the sedan, bumped up a bit to 320hp. A loaded model from Infiniti, with supposedly big improvements on interior quality and design, will come to just over 40k and have a decided performance advantage. I love the looks of this new Audi but that will be stiff competition.

I'd guess the upper 40's as well. And while it's safe to assume the G35 coupe will be quicker in a straight line than the A5, we really don't know which car will be the pick in the handling department.

Default Re: Competition for standard A5

I'm thinking (pure speculation, obviously) the A5 will start around $45K based on the fact a 2.0T TT can easily reach $40K+.

Following that reasoning, with just a few options the A5 will quickly reach $50K. I love the car, but alas that is probably going to be too rich for my blood.

The competition is very tough in this league, with the G35 coupe and 335i coupe looking very competitive with 40+ more hp and a well-optioned cost of $40 & $46K, respectively.

Still, I'd love to stick with Audi. I guess I'll just sit tight and wait a few more month to find out the real price. My next car won't be happening until early next year anyway...

Cheers,

Default Don't forget that Audi feels "undervalued" and had previously indicated a desire to increase prices.

Default If they want to stay in NA market, they will not increase - otherwise they can pack their bags

Default I think we'll see the A5 3.2 fully optioned over $50k

3.2 A6 doesn't have B&0, 19" wheels, back-up cameras, etc and has an MSRP over $50k

Not to mention you can barely get a fully loaded A4 for less than $45k

Default Whatever the competition is, the standard A5 is going to be the slowest

And least powerful. Combine that with the heavy power sapping Quattro system and you'll end up with the weakest performer in its class. IMO of course. I still like the Standard A5, but I'd expect that the standard engine will be replaced within a year, ala BMW. The standard A5 is going to need more power and CVT for me to consider it. If the S5 is priced like the current S4, then it's off to Audi I go, if not, I'll have to get the BMW 335.

Default 335i coupe can hit $55k with options, so that would be consistent with their competition.

And I really can't see them putting a $45k base price on this car unless they aren't wanting to sell many of them. It'll be hard for most people to pass up the 335i if it's faster AND substantially cheaper. That's not even getting into its other competition (g35 and IS350 which isn't a couple, but I'd still expect people to give it a look in this segment) which will come in fully optioned at near the base price of this car.

Default A co-worker just purchased a 335i coupe...

...with the options I'd be interested in (sport, leather, a few others, but NO iDrive) for $42K on the European delivery option.

You've got to pay to get to Europe, but that cost isn't part of your car payment. With that program and that price, the 335i is VERY tempting!

On the plus side, Audi does offer 5% off for their Euro delivery program. Again, I'm in wait and see mode - and I can't wait to see!

Default 335i With ALL options can hit $55k. And the 3.2's power output isn't consitent with the competition

I like the 3.2 A5 but if it's the same price as the 335, I'll get the 335. The performance difference between the two will be huge, while the Audi will probably end up being more expensive. I'm sorry but 265hp isn't cutting it against the 335's 300hp IMO.
