Default Re: I think my car's chassis just got a little stiffer, OK maybe a lot more stiffer...

These two pictures were taken on Thursday. The cage what still not finished then. Some of the braces were still "tack" welded in place some fully welded. On Friday (yesterday) I was told it had been completed and so today I'm heading out to see the final results of their work. We will also work on other things on the car today. More pictures to come. I cannot wait to see and feel this car on the road and better yet the track but this is still months away because of winter here.

Mid section showing the main "X" in the main hoop with the shoulder harness bar. You can see the right side main down brace and the secondary upside down "V" brace that also meets the main down brace at the suspension points.

The top section of the roll cage! If this doesn't stiffen the whole car nothing will. You can clearly see the upside down "V" here and where it attaches to the top of the main hoop. You can see its counterpart, the upside right "V" going forward. This basically attaches the rear right suspension point to the front left portion of the car and the same for the opposite side making a really big cross "X" within the car's chassis.

Default Here you go...

This picture was taken on Thursday. Since then all the cage as been welded and at a lot of points around the car's chassis the cage was welded to the chassis. Not seen here are two such welds from the front top bar to the chassis across the windshield.

Default I don't know yet. My guess is around 120 lbs but we will know for sure after we put the car back ...

On the scales after the cage portion is done.

The car weighed in at 2979 lbs prior to the cage being installed. We are still cutting the fat out of it and hope to be less than 3000 lbs once the car is ready to roll. However I am trying my best to get it down to 2900 lbs.
