Default Anyone else have water pump failure in 1st 5k miles on 2009 2.0 Q?

Started hearing a strange sound in the engine bay at idle after just 3k miles on my 2009 TT 2.0 Quattro coupe. It is a strange whirring/growling sound which happens after the engine is warmed up.

I took it to dealer Saturday and the head mechanic said it was not normal and wanted to look at it this week. After day one in the shop the dealer said they had another 2009 2.0 with the same sound and they were stumped. Today they said they think it is the water pump and I need to bring it back in next week when the part arrives.

Hopefully this will be the fix. It is interesting that another 2009 2.0 has the same problem. The head mechanic indicated Audi is carefully tracking the newly revised 2009 2.0 engine in the A3 and TT. Another mechanic confirmed that this engine is in fact lighter than the 2008 version, even with the heavier timing chain.

Default probably a faulty part. I had a water pump go on my last TT...

but the dealer was initially stumped because the whirring sound didn't happen when it was in their care. That whirring means the bearings have failed. Be careful and don't drive it. When mine went the pump seized at an angle and almost snapped the timing belt. Seriously, be very careful.

Default Work order says "OK for release". Hopefully it won't explode before next week.

Default No, an MK1. But the new version still has bearings that can fail.
