Default I got a new gadget

Just got myself a generic Off-Camera Shoe Cord for the 20D off of ebay. Showed up Tuesday. Works great, only cost me $37 shipped. I plan on using it primarily for macro shots mounted to a flash bracket, but I suppose it may also come in handy at some weddings this summer.

Default I'd like to maintain ETTL for the macro usage, at least initially

Default how's the quality? I need to get one as well and was looking at the same listing

I think the cord is also longer than the Canon's own version, right?

Default Not having seen the Canon version in person, I can't comment on the cord length

Quality seems pretty robust - enough to handle normal usage. Plus, it's half the price of the real thing. Only downside I can see so far is the cord on the flash end is attached to the left side of the block, rather than the front like the Canon.

Default Canon cord is about a foot long, 3 feet when stretched out.

I guess it's enough if you're going to hand-hold the flash unit, but it takes a bit too much force to keep the cord fully stretched out. Uncomfortable, I'd say.

Default Yep, exactly. It's useful sometimes, though.
