Default comments, criticisms?

one of those pictures I took on a trip that I couldn't wait to see how it turned out.

I like it myself, wondering what others think.

Only PS is auto-level. No cropping.

Default Looks good. I like the color contrast.

Depth of field looks like illusion. I thought teh pol was holding up the deck.

Default nice!

I would crop a little more- the boy doesn't fill enough of the frame. The pole also looks a little weird, but it's not like there's anything to be done about that.

Default I never even noticed the pole. Thanks for pointing it out

I'll have to look for those sorts of things in the future.

Default I like it. It's essentially a portrait. So as Chup pointed out...

I think it would have turned out a little better if you were closer up. Perhaps dialing back the focal length to pull in some of the surroundings may have helped? Candid portraits are tough though...you have to time that shutter click just right. I like the expression you captured.

Default thank you very much

it was tough enough to get that close without ruining the 'moment'. I had the 24-85 f3.5 on, and it was one of the times that I wish I had the versatility of my old 28-300. I was slowing walking towards him while his head was turned, hoping he would turn towards me eventually.

I'm a bit confused by your comment, though. "I think it would have turned out a little better if you were closer up. Perhaps dialing back the focal length to pull in some of the surroundings may have helped?"

Wouldn't have pulling back made the subject further away? Or are you suggesting that I have gotten closer and used a 'smaller' focal length? I assume this would have added a little more contrast and depth to the picture...

Default Yeah, I was suggesting a wide angle...

Sometimes the surroundings add a little to the portrait. In some instances I like the perspective you get with a portrait done with a wide angle.
