the movement on the screen. anyone have similar experiences ? looking to potentially take care of the problem myself rather than take it to the dealer for a royal reaming. seems like i need to get under there and clean the coffee remains out.

2nd. I suppose it might be possible to disassemble & clean but it's going to take some work
I remember a post from a while back with something similar of a child spilling something into the MMI and it seems the outcome was spendy.

Have your shop them try to clean it before ordering a replacement
There's a chance the voltages involved are low enough and nothing's really fried in there.
3 months ago I was being an idiot and was carrying stuff around the office and had a coffee cup in one hand with my wireless mouse on top of it. The mouse is quite round (apple mouse) so it took a whole 5 seconds for it to end up inside the cup where it stayed completely submerged for about 5 seconds. Needless to say it stopped working.
Instead of driving out to get another one I chose to pry it open, washed it in the sink, dried it (not all that thoroughly, I might add) and put it back together.
It worked right away and it's been working since.

the mmi still works ....
its the source select button and the mmi wheel that are no longer responding. hoping that this wont be a grand to fix. the wife is now blaming the entire incident on the placement of the cup holder not the children climbing out the front door instead of the side doors

if she knew the cup holders were in bad place why did she put coffee there?
j/k.. I know how women think (I guess). You might get lucky and it dries out or is able to be cleaned.

Underside of MMI
The entire MMI unit is clipped in:
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/95304/underneath_mmi.jpg">
It can easily be pulled out by reaching into the shifter "leather" and pulling up gently.
It appears that there are some screws on the back so maybe it is possible to remove the back cover and inspect how easy it is to clean.
On a side note, I wonder how many MMI units are replaced while the original unit is simply cleaned and then resold.

The whole thing is a unit- can't just replace the buttons/wheel separately..
Sticky drinks do not do well. I suggest your wife drink water in the Q7 instead(not that I have been able to get my wife to do this either ) We have had one similar episode, but the coffee missed the MMI and went into the passenger footwell...
I never drink anything in my S2000.
