Default 6.0 V12 TDi L.E.D Daytime running lights retrofit?.

Have any of you guys looked into the posibility of retro fitting the LED daytime running lights as fitted to the 6.0 V12 Tdi to your own Q7? Is it possible, or have Audi even contemplated releasing this light configuration as a Audi Accessory for earlier models?

I have a 2008 S-Line with incandescent daytime running lights, but have to say would prefer the LED type. I know there are many LED after market kits available, but I have not come across a decent fitment or manufacturer (with the exception of Hella) available yet. What is available is so tacky and involves a lot of "re-engineering" of the cars lights/and or wiring loom, which I will not attempt in order to preserve my warranty.

Any ideas or information would be greatly appreciated.

Or........................

Maybe,................ "Justforfun", as the Q7 forum ambassador, spokesman extraordinaire could interrogate Audi for some information on this topic???

Default LOL that would be good...

I seriously doubt they know who I am. I would give it a go though jusforfun.

The DRLs on the A5 are cool the way they dim (same side only) as you use turn signal.

You can use ballast resistors to keep the Q system happy but it must be possible just to reprogramme to a lower value but no reports yet.

I would be game to find a set of those too for my 4.2 2008 s line. Actually I would love to fit the whole front bumper, grille and headlights from the V12 tdi!

OEM Plus is selling the bar, grille, and DRL's as a kit.

Default Here' how I did mine... (S6 DRL's but should work for the V12 ones too)

<center><img src="http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r70/tymez2/drls.jpg"></center><p>
I didn't want to place the DRL's under the current OEM turn signals and have both sets of lights. Look too bulky and is not something Audi would do.

So I removed them and just mounted the DRL's in that spot. Relatively easy, you just need to make a bracket for them. There's a hard piece of plastic behind that small grille that you can easily drill into. Make sure if you bolt it on to that that you use some form of nut locking glue to stop it coming loose from the vibrations.

I've read that people are using some form of resitors/capcitors to get the LED's to work but I didn't have to. The S6 lights have three cables that run from the back of them. 2 are positives and 1 is a negative.

I still wanted my turn signals at the front so I replaced the bulbs of the stock DRL's (next to the Xenons) with 21W 12V orange globes. Then ran the cables from the turn signals into them. (The stock turn signals are the same wattage and voltage as the stock DRL's). I had the hazards on when I took the photo.

I then ran the wires from the globe (stock) DRL position to the S6 LED lights. Running it this way means that the DRL setting in your MMI still controls DRL lights, but now they're LED's.
I terminated the side lights that are also part of the original turn light assembly.

I'm assuming that the V12 LED's would be the same config as the S6's so this should work. It's not that big a job and I'm certainly no auto electrican. Just put my mind to it and got it done.

Good luck luvmshavd. The V12 ones will be a neater fit than the S6. Be sure to post your results

Default "I would give it a go though jusforfun" Love the pun!!!...................

"Justforfun" if you decide to take up the challenge of contacting Audi, it will be interesting to see what response you recieve.

"luvmshavd" Where did you manage to source your V12 DRL's from?? Are they Audi OEM? I truly look forward to your end results (and fitting instructions!)

I am of the opinion that this retrofit project should not present too much of a problem on the latest Q7 models, Hopefully!! I am assuming it should be a straight forward light exchange, with the 2008 MY Q7 having the LED wiring loom ready fitted or easily modified for LED fitment, Although I have to confirm that I have not looked at the lighting wiring loom to confirm my beliefs. (Could end up with egg on my face here!!)

Out of interest does anyone know where the turn indicators are on the V12 TDi? Are they positioned next to the LED's?

GBQ7, they are factory audi lights, The turn siganls in the v12 tdi are located where the US day time running lights are in the headlight net to the projector. I am gonna have some challenges installing these lights...
