Default Misfire service help?

My 99 1.8T A4 Quattro has been running rough lately and i hooked it up to an OBDII and it came up with cylinder 4 misfire. Any idea why this could be happening or what i could do to fix this problem without going to a dealer??

thanks,

-chris

Default Swap the coil with cylinder 3 and the plug with cylinder 2 and see if the misfire

follows either part. If it does then replace the failed item, if it doesn't it is probably your ignition control module on top of your air box (power output stage). Give me an e-mail after you have done this and I can help you out if you need it.

Did exactly what you said and its running a-lot better. I'm going to give it a tune up and hopefully that is all it needs.

Thanks,

-Chris

Default Re: Misfire service help?

hi,

I have a 2002 1.8t, would anything here applies to mine as well? I have the same problem, but mine is that it seems firing but no. 4 is not combusting. Changed all spark plugs, did my own testing of disconnecting plug wires individually. Engine run did not change on cylinder 4, so I concluded no. 4 has the problem. I checked the coil of no. 4 by placing a screwdriver near the contact while running, it is firing.

Now I am assuming that fuel injector is bad.
Same as everybody else, I dont want to bring it to the dealer...

All the help I could get would be very much appreciated.!!

Thanks

i moved the coil to 3 and the misfire followed. so i replaced the coil pack and it ran better. but after a few days, the misfire started again. Sometimes it misses, sometimes it dont. could these be the module?
