Default auto dimming mirror with homelink

Hi,

I've recently bought a 2006 Audi A4 Quattro (sedan, B7), base model with sunroof and leather. I want to add an auto dimming mirror with HomeLink (Gentex 40/41). Has anyone else done this? Anyone know how difficult it will be? Anyone know how to remove the stock rear view mirror?

Thanks.

Default I can't imagine it will be too difficult...

should be able to slide the old one off the window button and put the new one on. There should be wires you can tap already up there.

I've tried sliding the old one off, but it wouldn't move. The site selling the mirror says I'll have to replace the mount that's on the window, but I don't know how to do that without breaking the whole windshield

Default oh, that is different then...

i think those things just glue on the windshield. I would think some heat would soften up the mount so it would slide off.

there should be a screw or something holding the old one on the button. did you loosen it up? if so then add a little heat to the equation or just get a local windshield repair place to do it for you. They should know how to handle these things.

That might do it, thanks. Now to find someone with a heat gun, or swip my sister's hairdryer when I visit her.

Default hairdryer probably won't be strong enough...

so did you get the mirror off the button yet? it says there you have to twist it. most just slide off.

The hairdryer part was a joke

Haven't gotten the mirror off yet, I'll have to give that a try later. I tried once before, but it didn't turn easily, so I'll have to give it a little more force.

Thanks for the help, I'll let you know how it goes. The next part is figuring out how to wire it in without causing damage to the roof lining.
