Havent driven enough to see if this was the cause of my ongoing pinging problem. Regardless, the cleaner works well. Thanks to Ray Khan for the idea to check before and after.

Default cool...I'll have to run it through again

and take a closer look at all cylinders. I seem to have the most timing issues in cylinder 1. I might even spring for a motor vac treatment. If I do I'll take before and after pics as well.

just out of curiosity, how did you run in through the intake? Through the FPR nipple, BPV nipple, or both as the same time? I did both at the same time when I did it. I might do them both again, but half a can at a time in each of those nipples the next time. I'm not sure how evenly the stuff gets distributer when you do bowth BPV and FPR at the same time.

Default I did half the can through the bpv nipple and the second half through the fpr nipple.

I might spring for the motorvac too. I just got back from testing the car out again and I still have some pinging issues. I think it is a tad better but Id love to get all that **** out of the system. Im trying to find a Motorvac service center in orange county. I know their headquarters are here in 714, just need to find a mechanic who offers the service.

Default I dont think that is buildup that you are seeing in the second pic

I took a long flathead screwdriver and very gently ran it over the top of the piston, to see if that was actual residue remaining. It apears that it is some sort of discoloration. Almost like it was caked into the metal. Who knows, maybe it will come off after I add about 5 or 6 more bottles tonight. LOL, J/K

Default i've been having pinging and timing issues too... one of the first things i did was motorvac service

there was a noticable difference in idle. the car felt smoother in general, however, it didn't resolve the pinging issues. it's still a good idea and i will probably do it again in 10-15k.

Default so what are you seeing under full load?

are you looking at timing retard in each cylinder? Seeing any patterns? I'm hoping my FMIC whenever it arrives helps out. I'm also installing an oil catch can to keep the crankcase cleaner. If I'm still having some issues, I guess water injection is the next step.

Default it's fairly even over all 4 cylinders

under full load (depending on conditions) i was seeing as much as 10-13 degrees being pulled back on each cylinder. now i have it down to 5-7. it's hard to get any good data logs with the pinging because i usually back right off if i hear any pings. if i drive the car agressively under full load then it starts pinging. if i get on the throttle slowly and let boost slowly climb then power feels good and i don't get any pings. i'm also getting some boost creep. it holds @ 19-20 psi for a sec and then starts to climb to about 23 if i stay in the throttle.

so far this is what i've done:

bottle of bg44k
new plugs
swapped to spare maf
motorvac cleaning
fuel filter /oil change
front o2 sensor
n75 valve
removed front bumper and fmic, pressure /water tested intercooler, checked all intercooler piping, replaced all clamps, replaced all vac lines and clamps, cleaned air filter
coolant temp sensor
spring kit for forge bpv
many ecu resets

it's been an ongoing process for about 1.5 months now.... basically since the weather has gotten warmer, however, i don't know if i was pinging this winter because i didn't have windows down. plus, i'm not in heavy boost as much during the winter.

the car does run better since i've done all these things. we did find some vac leaks and after cleaning up all the hoses and replacing / tightening clamps i saw the timing retard go down to about 5-7, but pinging is still there which worries me the most.

yippers has been a huge help through email... i've been on the phone with apr a few times but they can only offer so much. been trying to get on the stage 3 forum but have been unsuccessful.

very frustrated to say the least... it's basically the reason i'm not going to waterfest.

good luck,
liam
