Default Result of non-starting issue

If you have seen my previous posts, you know that I picked up a CPO A4 last Tuesday. Wednesday it would not start.
I had it flatbedded to the dealership on Friday, only to find out that they were closed for the holiday.
The car sat at the dealership til Monday.

I was out of town til last night, and I still have my 98 A4, so fortunately I was not inconvenienced.
I'm going to pick up the car around lunchtime today.

The service writer told me that the ECU fuse blew because one of the coilpacks was shorting to ground. THey replaced the coilpack, and the fuse, and all is good now.

Is this the same coilpack problem that Audi had on the B5/B6 cars when they first went with the DBW system? I thought that they fixed it!
I'm just glad that it happened in my driveway, and not while I was out somewhere.

Default same thing happened on my '95 S6!

you'd think they would have individually fused each coil pack by now... a few Ur-S folks have done this themselves.

Default Well at least is was something simple and normal.

I think coil pack issues will exist forever - Such high voltages probably are hard to make 100% reliable and cost effective.

Default Hey Pete, glad they were able to resolve the issue. Hopefully it's just an isolated failure.

Default Coilpacks were comon on early B6 S4 buils and I think A4 too. Doesnt seem so common with the B7

Default Yeah, they went through a few revisions for the B6 1.8T early on.

Default The fuse doesn't blow on the B6's

Our coilpacks just die so the car ends up running on 3 cylinders (assuming one blew on the 1.8t). Its an easy swap too. Your issue sounds like it was something else but its good to hear you got it figured out

Default i had the same issue on my b6 1.8t

the problem was in the harness and it decided to short while i was driving. not good. but i was able to coast to a parking lot. a new ignition harness later, and it was running fine for a while, until i got rid of it.
i just recently got an 06 2.0tqm s-line and am hoping i dont get a coil pack issue.

Default How many miles were on your car when that happened?

I bought my car CPO with 23k miles on it. So I would hope that some of the bugs have been worked out already.

Or maybe that's just enough time for bugs to start appearing.

I'm not in a rush to sell my B5 now.
