It means to get an aftermarket performance program "flashed" onto your car's computer for greater hp and torque.

Is that what the performance chips like APR do, or do you have to put the performance chip in and then have the program flashed onto that chip? I hope you understand what I'm asking, like I said, not a modder (yet), but I'm trying to understand as this seems like the best first step. Thanks for the reply

The easiest way to have this done is to go an authorized dealer and have them connect to your car via the diagnostic port and upload the new performance program - thereby "flashing" your existing ECU (Engine Control Unit) takes about 30 minutes and you're done.

Okay, call me brick stupid, but then what do you need the chip from APR for? And how do you switch back and forth between the stock and the modified program?
Again, apologies to all of you who know this stuff, but we all gotta start somewhere, and this is my starting line. |

it will explain everything about program switching.
You don't need a chip from APR if you have yours "flashed"
