This one is simialr to what I have and it wont fit in the trunk, unless I lay it on its side. Which renders it useless

As kvanwagoner mentioned, the trunk is pretty deep...but you'll have much more space with the avant

Yes, but there is a trick. Fold down the back seat, rest the cooler on it and then push it into the trunk. THe dealer showed this to me. Not a good solution but it works. Unfortunately size is limited and you will not be able to open it when it is in the trunk.
