Avant has 1 cu ft more rear passenger room, but as an Avant owner, I don't see it. I think it's gained because the roofline is straighter, so it benefits rear headroom more.

I previously had 2 B6 S4 Avants and now have a B7 RS4 Avant (with the optional Recaro Sports seats) and there is definitely an inch or two less rear leg room. From what I've seen there's even less rear leg room if you have the bucket front seats.

or you are saying the S4 has more leg room in the back than the RS4(?)
I have decided to buy a B7 S4, B7 S4 avant or a B7 RS4... There are crazy great deals on all of them right now. I know that the RS4 is a different beast... but I am being tempted by the pricing on them. Bottom line, I know that the back seat on all these is tiny...so to me, every little bit counts... if one of these models has even a little bit more leg room in the back, I would like to know about it... thanks again |

but won't answer your question. The AVANT has more rear passenger room, but that additional volume is in headroom. Leg room in the sedan and Avant are IDENTICAL.
To borrow a phrase once used to describe 911 rear seats, the back seats are best used for midgets or legless children. The B7 rear seat seems tighter than in my B5 S4 Avant. I'm only 5'8" and already feel cramped. Those big Recaros in front rob you of knee room, so if you plan to use the back seats for carrying people around, they better be close friends on short trips. HTH. |

We have a Honda minivan as a kid hauler and I have an older Porsche as fun car. This new Audi will be replacing my aging Toyota Avalon. So... I dont need much room in the back, only enough for toddler seats, dont plan to put any adults back there.
To be honest, I am having a tough time deciding. The S4 sedan would be the most economical and straight forward choice, but I like the S4 Avant as something a bit different...sort of a cool daddy car. For some reason, I love it in Ibis White. Last, the RS4 was not originally a consideration, but the pricing is just so attractive that it is tempting. In the end, I think that it is probably a bit too much for me as a daily driver street car...plus the shifting in traffic would probably get old. |
