Default Remote control range questions...

Please review my setup (linked) - we are contemplating putting the setup in a different workstation / desk / media area that would not be line of site from the projector and home theatre seating area.

Simple question: am I going to have issues with remote control of my components?

The area where the components would all go is about 20 feet from the seating area, partially obstructed by a wall, but otherwise open.

Thoughts?

Default remotes are line of sight...

I'd say 20 feet is marginal, but with an obstruction (wall) you will likely have problems.

I'd recommend either something like the Harmony 890 (which uses RF) or a Xantech IR repeater

Default Yes - a IR repeater is probably what Jason needs. A RF wouold have to have converter to IR

Some equipment would probably recongize the bounce off walls some would not if you try to go around the wall.

I can bounce my signals off the ceiling sometimes for some gear

Default What can you recommend

Visually and functionally I think the components definitely belong in a different area than the theatre area... based on my space. So I have to solve this problem now before we start construction or I have to rearrange things.

Default Good choice - but I have no recommendations on brands. I would talk to some of the better places

like listen up and see what their experience says.

Default Im looking for IR Distribution system too

I did a Universal RF setup with my HT,which will rock once beerock programs my remote but my Dad wants to hide one simple cable box behind a door-so a simple IR system is what I need.

Niles is one of the better brands, Crutchfield has the sytem for $199. I cant speak about Xantech or other brands, never seen them in action before.

Default I've used a number of Xantech repeaters

They've always worked flawlessly
