Laptop Memory Help

So here's the situation, I have a basic Gateway MX 3215 Laptop that I bought in Feb. '06. Originally it was supposed to have 256 MB of memory, but at time of purchase I had it upgraded to 512 MB. According to all Gateway and other support info I can find, the computer should be able to upgrade to 1GB of memory.

The Gateway Spec. sheet says it's DDR2 SODIMM PC-4300 memory. I purchased a Memory Power DDR@ ! GB DDR-2 667/533/400 PC2-5300/PC2-4200/PC2-3200 chip for it.

When I install the chip, the computer starts to turn on, my HD lite flashes a few times and nothing more happens. No start up screen or anything. Unfortunately I cannot return the memory chip as we bought it from Circuit City, so I'm kinda screwed on that end, but anyone have any other thoughts.

Get a 1 GB set (matched 512 MB pairs).

Sometimes it happens that The RAM you brought do not match with the motherboard so its always better to take away the lapi or CPU to market and check the things there only. Also somtimes it happens that your RAM is increased but it would now show up in the PC
