2005 A8 Poor radio reception
New to this forum. I get very poor radio reception on both the local and variable settings. Could the antenna be unplugged? and if so where do i locate the fitting? Thanks for any assistance offered.

Uses lots of amplifier electronics...
with a complicated antenna system. Wiring is up inside the rear center trim above the back window. It just pulls off, but you have to be really careful. There are replacable plastic push pins that are cheap if one or more break.
BUT, if it is a 2005 hopefully you are still under warranty. There are Audi TSB's specifically about radio reception, often resulting in replacing antenna amps as I recall. It's not really a DIY I think. With a TSB, you can typically get a good dealer service guy to fix it reliably.

More info...interesting too, can be related to remote locking range
Looked at TSB's. 91-05-04 is probably the one I was thinking of. Symptom is poor reception either AM or FM. ALSO, can lead to reduced key remote range--I never noticed that part before. Applies to 2004's to 2006's.
It says to check for issues, basically try two things:
1. Look at the amp module itself--it's above that rear headliner piece per my prior post. If it has cracks, then it says replace and end of story. It shows a picture with the part number showing in white ink. The illustration shows a hairline crack on the side with that part number--hopefully that side faces down (unclear from the text).
2. Failing finding cracks, try pushing the amp gently toward the roof. You have to do this with a pencil or something non metallic; otherwise you act as an antenna too and the sound quality goes up anyway. If in fact the sound reception improves when you push on it with some non metallic object, again the amp module is no good. Underneath it has spring clips pushing on the glass contacts in the rear window, so it it makes better contact somehow, that's why the reception improves.
Apparently the remote antenna is in the rear glass too, so it gives the same diagnostic approach to check the remote--that is with someone else testing the remote while you push the unit tighter to the glass.

For the door runner molding I started in the middle pulling up with just my fingers from carpet side. There were some of those paper clip connectors the were attached to the rubber molding that provides a seal from the outside weather.i used a simple flathead screwdriver to nudge them off.
for the plastic molding at the top of the windshield even easier. I just pulled from the window side with just my fingers using short pops. That came down from there.
