Default buying a 2004 a8L????

right now im selling my 2000 corvette and really wanna get into an a8L. I love the way the car looks and everything. the problem is that i can only afford an 04. I did read that the 04 had problems since its the first year of this boby style. Will i be alright with the 04 without warrenty? i dont keep cars more then a year so will i be alright? hope to hear back. thanks

Default It partly depends on...

...how NICE of a 2004 A8L you can afford.

If you get one with lower miles, service history, inspected prior to purchase, you can do fine. You might also want to consider a short-term warranty for the major items (full disclosure - I sell warranties) or even for two years as you can then sell it with a warranty and get more money for the car.

If you get a beater, there is a lot of expensive stuff than can go wrong. So purchase carefully and do your homework on the car prior to buying it.

You might also want to consider a D2 A8 or S8 if you like that body style, as they are considerably less money so you can keep some cash in reserve, get a warranty, etc.

i read somewhere you should look at the vin for a higher number? i found a couple that were somewhere around maybe 15,000 or more. i guess thats the build number, so the higher the better?

Default Yes

I have a high vin 2004 and it has been pretty problem free. The only repair I've had where the warranty helped much is the suspension bushing replacement which is known under a TSB. If that has been done, most other upgrades shouldn't be too bad.

Default You really need a warranty

As the owner of a CPO'd '04, I can safely state that you don't want to own an '04 that does not have any warranty whatsoever. Absolutely incredible car and the best deal in its price range, but it ain't cheap to fix, and I guarantee you're gonna have to fix something on it in the first year.

I don't think it costs less to fix an A6 than A8 although you can get a newer one for the same money. There is no comparison in the drive, IMHO the A8 is totally superior.

Default Re: Yes

My non-dealer Audi mechanic shared with me that the A8's are more reliable than the A6's as far as he's seen.
