Default 05 MMI Screen Fixed......here's a Nav question...

Almost one week has gone by and the new screen (pulled from an 04) in my 05 is working flawlessly. PaulW correctly termed the "repair" process as an "Easter egg hunt" but the end result was worth the hunt. The car is absolutely wonderful and now I can focus on everything else without worrying about the screen going black.

Here's an interesting question--does anyone know how to simply set the Nav system to show your movement on the screen's map display without having programmed a destination/route? The only thing close to this is setting the screen to show the current position. However, once you see the current position on the screen's map, the position is stationary even if the car is still moving--it only gives you a "snapshot" view and that's it. According to my service manager, he contacted NavTeq about this and they claim that Audi decided they didn't want its customers to be able to simply view their changing position on the map. They thought it would be "too distracting". If that's the case, why even bother installing a navigation system in the car???

yes it is. . . .can't recall how I did it. . .you don't have to "set" anything. . . as I recall. . just hit the Nav switch and then play with the swithes around the Big Knob.

That is absolutly a BULL SH&^ statement your service manager made UNLESS they changed that for '05, which I can't imagine. Hit the NAV button on MMI then just push the button in the lower right quad(MAP button). This will give you a PIC that moves as you do. The D3 becomes a BLACK ARROW and moves with the postioning. You can change the Yards or Miles of closeness at it moves.

I'll never allow work on my MMI ( unless it goes belly up ) since I don't think I want any of these DOWNDATES ( get it UPdates )to the SW.

Default Your s.m. needs to rtfm...

My nav systems shows my progress. Just push the button for the Nav system, then push the button that corresponds with the map feature. (should be the lower right button next to the large dial.) Your car should show up on the map as a little arrow. Once the map is up you can change the zoom on the map by turning the dial. Hope this helps!

Click the image to open in full size.

Not sure if something has changed with the 05 but in my 04 simply select NAV then MAP. It displays current position and tracks movement without route guidance active.

Default That's what I tried..doesn't work...

Thanks for the quick responses. I've done exactly what everyone's suggested in this forum so far but the result is still a "snapshot" of where the car was when I pressed the lower right button by the main MMI **** to get to "Map". There is no movement of the arrow (my car) on the map with the car in motion.

To make things more interesting, I called NavTeq in Chicago to check out this problem and confirm what my service manager told me....NavTeq says they only make the software (the DVD) and the Harmon-Becker makes the MMI system which controls what you see on the screen. My service manager's explanation does turn out to be B.S. The NavTeq guy gave me Harmon-Becker's toll free number which turns out to be Audi's Customer Relations' phone number!! (800-822-4236) I just left a message for my Audi Advocate (Mark) to call me on this.

Thanks. My screen shows the car in a frozen position despite movement. See further response below under "That's what I tried..."
