Default Got my car back from it's 5K service; some observations

The two items that I asked them to look at was the speedo error and the pessimistic gas gauge (I filled the tank on the way to the dealer). I'd given my SA the plot of the actual vs indicated speeds, and he was willing to see what he could do.

He told me that they replaced the instrument cluster trying to cure both the problems. Unfortunately it didn't fix either one, the speedo error is exactly the same. Interesting.

When I was given the workorder, it included a six page diagnostic log, that shows all the faults (and no faults) recorded. I had no comm to the humidity sensor (hmmm, never noticed that). The log also shows that they re-did the levelling of my car. It listed all the steps and measurements they used to reset level. I'll measure my car again this week to see if it's changed.

While I was waiting for my car to be brought around, there was a black A8L with the Amaretto interior there: absolutely stunning! It had the new style fin on top. The antenna is probably 80-95% the size of our old style ones. The actual fin that sticks up looks exactly like a miniture vertical stabilizer from a 737. It's about an inch long by 2 inches tall.

And was it nice getting back into my car after that A6 3.0 loaner, it really makes me appreciate the A8L's suspension and power ;-)

Default Plano, there IS a fix for the gas gauge "error"

and it has nothing to do with the instrument panel. It was posted here(D2) back in Oct. Ill see if I can locate it. It has to do with the sending unit. The speed "error" is not fixable. understand that German cars earmarked for the US are set that way. You saw an 04 with an 05 fin? Does it look as though it a retrofit to ours might work? Glad to see you are "back in the saddle'!

Default I knew the speed error probably wouldn't get fixed, but gave it a shot anyway

As for the fin, judging by the size of it, I would say it's about 50% of the volume of ours. Which would lead to a conclusion that there are either fewer items enclosed or the size is much less. Maybe Audi gave up w/ the satellite radio and didn't include those antennae.

I also didn't notice the indentation in the roof for the fin, but the black paint may have made it less obvious.

"Back in the saddle" LOL! how'd you know I rode my bike into work today?

Default Tejas=back in the saddle!! Audi probably changed the size of the fin

from an asthetic standpoint. It should have everything in it that the 04s have. Audi also had/has a problem with the sat. radio integration into our cars, thus the holdup. Car returns to the dealer tomorrow. Should I bring my bike?

Default I sent an e-mail to my SA that the fixes didn't work

He's forwarding this on to AoA with the warranty claim. Maybe if everyone complains, AoA will catch a clue a figure out a fix.....yeah right LOL!
