Audi Music Interface in action

The new Avant came in 3 days ago equipped with AMI from the factory. In addition to the installed unit, you get your choice of connection cables, an iPod "dock" connector and a stadard stereo minijack. If you have an iPod, there is no readon not to go with the dock connector, as it will charge the iPod and provide full connectivity.

The unit itself sits on the left side of the glove compartment. There is a little pull-out tray that the iPod fits into.

The AMI appears as another menu choice when you hit the "CD/AUX" button on the MMI console (sorry no picture of that).

Select the AMI from the menu, and you get an interface that looks just like your iPod's screen, witht eh same menu structure. The MMI **** takes the place of the clickwheel/center button, and the arrow buttons to the left and right of "Return" skip to next/previous song.

All your playlists are available, and you can browse by Artist, Album, etc as usual.

The only real hassle is having to scroll all the way to the top to access the next level up. There may be a better way to do this that i just have not found yet.

The AMI interface will show up in the dashboard display screen as well. The left side thumbwheel will scroll, and a press of the wheel selects. You can toggle in and out of the display with the "Mode" button.

There are no doubt more tricks to the system, as I have just had a short time with the car to this point.

My S6 did NOT come with the AMI Interface. Do you know if this can be added @ the dealer or any 3rd party?

They were supposed to come out with a unit this past January/February but still nothing. Maybe they meant 2008?
