If you even touch the pedal while accelerating, either the transmission disengages or the engine stops revving, believing you have a stuck throttle. Try it sometime... step on the accelerator and while accelerating press on the brake. It's like the engine just shuts down.
An effective way to stop people from riding their brakes. I sometimes preload the transmission when trying to get more punch off the line, and this has happened a couple of times to me. It sure gets your attention!

Electronically controlled instead of hard wire.

rather than the brakes. Takes quite awhile in "D", but not in "S".
In discussions with the dealer's senior workshop engineers, they said that the handbrake automatically engages on a slope when at standstill as there is less torque in the CVT compared with the tip. I'm quite sure in the situation I described that the handbrake wasn't on, I was on the accelerator, not touching the brake pedal, and the car didn't move till about 4000 rpm due to the spooling and the lack of torque flowing through the transmission. I doubt if tip owners have the same problem. For those not aware of this issue, it could cause an accident.

Same thing happened to me on the second day of driving my new car. I thought " what a piece of Cr@p" My volkswagen beetle 15 years ago accelerated better than this from a stop....
As i have put more miles on it, it has been better off the line but I always throw it in "S" just in case..... Dont take it the wrong way, I still love this car. |

What do they mean by "less torque in the CVT"? Same engine so how less torque?
BTW I've noticed the same thing in D. |

You will find that w/o the parking brake activation, the car will slide backwards. This will not be the case for the tip as there is apparently more twist action transmitted at idling speeds.
Just be careful on slopes.
