a build sticker under the carpet in the trunk? Sometimes a build sheet is found behind the glovebox (not sure how you'd get in there). Just remember that the rest of the world places date/month/year in that order.
The vin number itself will not give you an exact build date. 1 ............. Country 2-3 .......... Manufacturer 4 ............. Model Line Series (e.g. A4 Sedan FWD, A4 Sedan quattro, etc) 5 ............. Engine Type (e.g. 1.8T, 2.8, etc.) 6 ............. Restraint System (e.g. Drive and Passenger Airbags) 7-8 .......... Model (e.g. A4, S4, A6, A8, etc) 9 ............. Mft Check Digit (internal code) 10 ............ Vehicle Model Year (W = 1998, started alphabetically w/D = 1983) 11 ............ Mft Plant (Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm, etc.) 12-17 ....... Production Series Number _____________ Another decoder http://www.audiworld.com/tech/audi1.shtml#two

I have been frequent on German boards - and just by giving few digits (see my post below) - they were able to get my month, which is correct. So, there is a way - I dont understand how. 017 = June I think you have to start counting after 23May. My car was made 017 days after 23may?

Here is how a VIN correctly breaks down by digit.
1 - Country of origin 2 - Manufacturer 3 - Vehicle Type 4 - Series 5 - Engine 6 - Restraint System 7 - Model (position 7 & 8) 8 - 9 - Check Digit 10 -`Model Year 11 - Assembly Plant 12 - Serial Number (position 12 - 17) 13 14 15 16 17 I'll be sure to not help you again in the future since you obviously don't care for correct information. |

I donot know why people are in attack mode here.
Ok - Last six digits (the serial number) DO CONTAIN THE MONTH OF MANUFACTURE. I am not wrong here click this link - (Very old) http://www.isham-research.co.uk/quat...n_numbers.html I reiterate - the last six digits contain all the data about your car. The last three digit are pure serial numbers and first three in the set are actually batch. This batch number is what is used by dealers to check if particular TSB is applicable to the car or not. If you talk to the dealer on phone - you need to give them Type, MY, and the last 6 digits only to identify your car. This is true for ALL cars. The last 8 digits are significant - other than that is mumbo jumbo (we know our cars are sedan/hatchback and we ofcourse know the manufaturer of the car)
